With over 17 years of experience working in various settings, I have learned the power of counselling and its ability to help individuals from all walks of life. Counselling allows you to explore options, find solutions, develop coping strategies, identify strengths, and promote resiliency and self-empowerment. I have worked with children and youth, women, families, and couples dealing with various issues but not limited to mental health, domestic violence, parenting, teen issues, stress, and relationships. My preferred modalities are solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and CBT while using a strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach.
As a single parent, I know how stressful it can be to do it alone. It can feel even harder to ask for help. The fact that you are here reading this shows your willingness to seek the support that you need. Taking that first step and reaching out shows your courage and strength. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings. I understand that life isn’t easy, and the pressure of family, friends, work, and society can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming. We can cultivate coping strategies and solutions tailored to your needs and strengths.
When I’m not practicing, you can find me running, watching an exciting thriller movie or TV series, or going on an adventure with my daughter to explore nature. I love being around family and friends and reflecting on good memories while building new ones.

Do you feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, stressed, alone, and not sure what is wrong or where to turn? Do you suffer from feelings of nervousness, racing thoughts, panic attacks, difficulty relaxing, exhaustion, or burn out? Having overcome my own struggle with anxiety as a young person, I have developed a strong passion for assisting others who are suffering from similar challenges. Bringing with me almost 20 years of front line experience as well as a Master of Science in Psychology (specializing in anxiety disorders) and Master of Social Work (R.S.W.), my goal is to help people across the life span suffering from anxiety to regulate emotions, notice and change unhelpful thought patterns, manage stress, and improve relationships with others and themselves. Let’s work together to transform your struggles into stepping stones, leading you towards a peaceful and empowered life. No challenge is too big or too small – I’m dedicated to helping you find your way and ensuring you no longer feel held back by your troubles. I work from a trauma-informed, client-centred practice, shifting the focus from “what is wrong with you?” to “what happened to you?” My down-to-earth approach is rooted in kindness, compassion, and understanding with a highly individualized therapy program. Whether you prefer a more traditional therapeutic approach (my specialties include CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and EMDR) or would like to try something different (e.g., doing therapy while taking a walk in nature, called a WALK ‘N TALK), I am willing and open to explore a treatment that works for you and your preferences.
In addition to specializing in anxiety, I offer child centred therapy. Being a kid can be so hard especially with all the new challenges they have recently faced. Research has consistently shown that a child’s mental health has a strong impact on how a child thinks and feels about themselves and their outside world, creating the very building blocks for adult functioning and well-being. Whether your child has suffered trauma, is struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, conduct disorder, Autism Spectrum, or any other concerns that are impacting his/her/their development, I’d be happy to assist in their journey to wellness using my nearly 20 years of direct frontline experience (both professional and personal) working with children of all ages. While “traditional” therapy relies heavily on language skills, my comprehensive, kid-centred, creative, and highly personalized approach allows your child to explore their interests/skills while promoting their executive functioning, developing social skills, practicing coping skills, building competencies, and prompting a holistic approach. I am here to tailor a specific therapy program to your child’s needs rooted in warmth, compassion, and understanding. Whether they like drawing, playing, creating, or building, let’s start their journey to mental wellness together.

When it comes to inner health, I believe that our sense of wellness is connected to the nature of our relationships with self, others, and our environment. As stressful events compound, we may have trouble meeting the demands of daily life and feel as though we are losing our bearings. I am passionate about supporting people with concerns that impact their mood and anxiety, all within the context of impactful life events. More than anything, I believe the client-therapist relationship is at the heart of transformative healing and lasting change. It’s through this trusted connection that we can create a safe space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and vulnerabilities, in addition to taking steps toward value-driven, health-focused behaviours.
Grounded in a trauma-informed and strength-based approach, I draw from a number of cognitive-behavioural and emotion-focused therapies to guide my practice. I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Currently Full, please contact us (Carmina@gibsoncounselling.ca) for information about my waitlist.
As a practicing Psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker (OCSWSSW), my goal is to create a space from which you feel safe to explore what is holding you back from the life you would like to be living. My practice is guided by the hope of offering you a space for healing in a judgment-free and open setting. When we are offered the space for connection, our system can open up to explore parts of ourselves that are otherwise blocked by defences, pleasing and performance. I would be honoured to hold this space with you.
I work with most concerns that bring someone to counselling, including stress, trauma, identity, grief and loss, anxiety, and transitions along the life course. If your story includes parts that feel unfinished, burdened, or stuck, then I am likely a good fit for you. I work collaboratively with my clients exclusively from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy (Level 3 and advanced training) and Somatic Therapy perspective. This means that therapy most often involves working to explore what is happening inside rather than focusing on what is happening around you in your life. While somatic-oriented IFS is my main model of use, I am privileged to have knowledge of and experience in many other models that can be used to assist us in the therapeutic process, such as EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness.
In addition to psychotherapy, I value working with other professionals and businesses through supervision, consultation and teaching. I offer clinical supervision, regularly facilitate workshops throughout Canada and consult with organizations. I offer clinical supervision to new and experienced clinicians who resonate with my approach and experience. I also enjoy working with organizations to collaborate on addressing issues, including burnout and team dynamics, and to support their business growth. I also develop and teach workshops on a number of topics, including psychotherapy models, trauma-focused care, and topics related to ethics and professional practice. If you are curious about any of these services, please contact me.

In times of transition, it is easy to feel lost or disconnected from who you truly are. I understand that life’s changes—whether it’s navigating the ups and downs of teenage life, shifting careers, or managing workplace stress—can leave you searching for clarity and a sense of direction. As an IFS Level 1 Certified professional, I offer a space where both teens and adults can explore these challenges with compassion, understanding, and authenticity.
My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the complexities that come with change. I draw from Internal Family Systems and Compassionate Inquiry to help you reconnect with your inner strength and wisdom. Together, we will work to uncover the parts of you that feel overwhelmed or are struggling with self-doubt, gently guiding you toward a place of greater self-awareness, confidence, and authentic self-expression.
I have walked alongside many individuals who, like you, are navigating the delicate balance of personal growth while managing the demands of life. Whether you are a parent seeking to maintain a meaningful connection with your teenager, or you are a teenager looking for guidance, someone dealing with career transitions, or an individual struggling with stress at work, I am here to guide you. I offer these services in both English and Spanish, working together by ensuring you can express yourself in the language that feels most comfortable to you.
This work is about more than just managing change—it is about rediscovering the core of who you are and aligning your life authentically. My guidance is to help you move forward with clarity, purpose, and a deeper connection to your authentic self.
When I am not helping others navigate their personal journeys, I recharge by spending time in the wilderness. The vibrant energy of nature, whether from meditating under trees or exploring the outdoors, rejuvenates my spirit. Back at home, I enjoy playing and cuddling with my curious cat, Kiki.

I believe that no matter where we start from, no matter the experiences that we’ve had in our childhood or in our relationships, or even the choices that we’ve made thus far, we can still have restorative experiences that can make us believe in transformation, healing, and change. I am a Psychotherapist and a Registered Social Worker (OCSWSSW), who is here to collaborate with you on your journey to understanding what is best, true, and most right for you by recognizing the inherent wisdom that you already have within yourself. I will honour you wherever you are at, and whenever you are ready, we can begin to venture outside of your comfort zone and move towards where you would like to be and the kind of life that you would like to have.
In our work together, I am committed to empowering you; introducing you to new ways of working, caring, and being; and offering you the tools needed in order to thrive successfully. And while I am trained in a number of therapeutic modalities, I understand the importance of tailoring therapy to your needs. So, I will do my best to curate a therapeutic experience for you based on my trainings in: Attachment Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Aside from being a social worker, I am an avid reader, a believer in kindness, an earnest daughter to immigrant parents, a writer-in-learning, as well as a doggo mom to an Australian Shepherd named Obi-Wan Kenobi (Obi, for short).

Coming to therapy takes a lot of courage and trust. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship that reflects this understanding and creates a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore themselves within the context of their own lives.
As a Registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW, I utilize a client-centered approach and draw mainly on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to guide my work with clients. Noticing and naming our feelings is the first step to gaining more control over our bodies and learning to live a meaningful life that aligns with our values and goals. I also draw on Mindfulness, Solution Focused and CBT therapies within session to ensure that clients are receiving the treatment that best aligns with their presenting problems and personal preferences.
I work most frequently with people experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, family conflict, life transitions and have a special interest in working with clients struggling with self-identity and self-esteem. I also have experience working with individuals with Traumatic brain injuries and children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.
Outside of the office you will find me spending time with my husband and son (and our dog Hank), playing sports and enjoying the outdoors.

In a world that is becoming increasingly complicated every day, therapy is a safe space away from the pressures of daily life where you can explore your concerns without judgment. My aim as a therapist is to create an environment where I can support you in exploring what is bothering you and we can work as a team to find solutions that are tailored to your unique story and circumstances. I draw from a range of therapies, but my main guiding principles come from a strengths-based perspective. I believe, above all, that YOU are the expert in your own life and that I am merely here to help you on your road to self-actualization.
I have been a social worker for many years, working with people from diverse backgrounds. My specialty is working with young men and adolescents aged 12 - 40, but I enjoy working with people of any age, gender and background. My primary areas of focus are anxiety, depression, men’s issues, stress, life changes and relationship issues.

Suffering is an inevitable human experience, yet our lives and emotional struggles are as unique as we are. I believe that providing presence and human connection is fundamental to healing. As a psychotherapist and registered social worker with the OCSWSSW, I will bear witness to your unique experience in a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space, so you feel heard and know you are not alone.
I am dedicated to supporting individuals navigating the difficult terrain of grief, loss and transitions, as well as other challenges related to mental health and trauma. Guided by your lived experience and level of comfort, I will accompany you on your journey of reflection, discovery, and healing. We will look at your experiences to understand the meaning they have for you; we will uncover and build on your strengths and skills so you can move forward and still remain anchored amidst life’s storms; and we will explore what is most important to you, so your sense of purpose lights your path and sustains your wellbeing.
I apply a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive lens to my practice, in keeping with your needs, preferences, and the context of your circumstances. Working with you from a perspective that integrates compassion, acceptance, and the mind-body connection, I blend modalities such as ACT, CFT, SFBT and CBT. I also draw on attachment, psychodynamic, and grief theories, and mindfulness and narrative techniques. I provide EMDR as a body-oriented therapy for trauma specifically.
Outside of this work, you can often find me connecting with loved ones, including beloved animal companions, practicing Pilates, or watching a hilarious comedy!
